College Football Rankings

So my team Michigan, ranked #2, won its football game this past Saturday. But the old maize ‘n’ blue won just barely to Ball State, a team that was an underdog by over 30 points! And U of M’s nemesis Ohio State, ranked #1, also won in a close game. I know both teams played under their ability, so my question is: do they deserve to keep their rankings?

OSU received all votes for #1 both in the AP and USA Today polls, even thought they played relatively poorly, and there are other undefeated teams in the country ranked lower, such as the Louisville Cardinals and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (yes, Rutgers!). Louisville (#3) and Rutgers (#15) are also undefeated, but have much more momentum at this point of the season.

Shouldn’t Louisville and Rutgers be ranked higher? Do Michigan and Ohio State deserve to be #1 and #2? Let’s hope U of M and OSU are just saving their best for their annual season-ending meeting, this year bigger than ever! Go blue!

What a wild Monday Night Football game! The Chicago Bears were losing 20-3 to the Arizona Cardinals towards the end of the 3rd quarter. Their offense stunk the whole game; they scored 3 points and had 6 turnovers! How could they come back and win this? With DEFENSE, that’s how. They scored two defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win the game, and big thanks to a game-ending missed field goal by Arizona. The Bears won 24-23. Well, at least Arizona has an awesome new stadium.

Great Sports Evening (Tigers and Wolverines)

Well it was another great sports evening this Saturday night. First, in Major League Baseball, the Detroit Tigers finished the sweep of the Oakland Athletics! The Tigers have lost over 400 games in the last 4 years (152-game season), so that makes a trip to the World Series even more spectacular. The relatively new Tigers’ stadium, Comerica Park, had never seen a playoff game until this series.

The Tigers haven’t even been to the playoffs since 1987. They won the World Series in 1984. I remember that very well as I followed baseball more than the others sports back then. I also painted my mom’s face for one of the World Series games, and she brought back Tiger Stadium sod which we planted in the back yard!

The second game was University of Michigan football. The Wolverines beat Penn State in Happy Valley, 17-10. They are now 7-0, and should be moving to #2 in the polls. (They are currently #4.) Ohio State is #1 so it looks like an extra special showdown between the two powerhouses at the end of the season.

Lions Play Like MSU, Not Michigan

The Detroit Lions football team unfortunately plays like the Michigan State football team; they always find a way to lose. The Lions lost to the mediocre Minnesota Vikings yesterday by blowing a 17-3 lead in the fourth quarter. They and the MSU football team both have a terrible history of underachieving and losing leads. If you recall a couple weeks ago, MSU blew a 17-point lead to Notre Dame and lost 40-37.

I am proud to say that I went to the University of Michigan. U of M clobbered Notre Dame in South Bend this year and beat MSU last Saturday at the Big House. Maybe the Lions should draft some more Wolverines.
